With the Parish Council Elections looming, I thought the most helpful way to say something about myself was to set up a website so perhaps allowing a wider audience to understand what makes me tick and why I stood as a Parish Councillor to start with.
When I heard that the Government were planning HS2 to run through Wendover and the Chilterns, I was appalled. My kneejerk reaction was to join the Wendover Society, the Chiltern Society, the Parish Council - in fact any body that had a collective voice that would hopefully be heard by the Transport secretary of the day - currently Philip Hammond
However, since last Summer when I joined the Parish Council, I've discovered that there are many other issues, both major and minor, that affect us locally, some of which are being foisted on to local communities such as localism and other policies which can be just as challenging in their own way as much as HS2.
Local representation is very important and recent issues relating to toilets, car parks, footpaths and youth clubs are just as important as more high profile ones such as railways. Representation takes many forms and is promulgated through many well meaning organisations and societies but mainly because of apathy, the younger age group - the future generations - are not as represented as much as they should be. As people retire and grow old gracefully their priorities change and their work is more concentrated on protecting their own interests and preferences
Equality and diversity covers ethnicity, age, sex, colour and creed and its important that in a modern society all are treated fairly. My priority is to ensure that the younger generation are not forgotton and that they are encouraged and supported to ensure they are involved in local democratic processes in the future
